eTXT is a simple and cost-effective premium SMS service for sending messages to many people all at once. It has the power of email and the web, with the immediacy of SMS text messaging. You can send text emails to mobile phones via your email, login to the eTXT website where you can compose messages, use pre-prepared message templates or integrate directly via API.

 

It is ideal for larger businesses that wish to communicate with its workforce on a regular basis. Or for customer-conscious businesses that wish to send useful information such as order confirmations, appointment reminders, new stock or event alerts, overdue reminders, delivery notifications or product offers.   

System administrators can even use eTXT for server alerts and monitoring software notifications as well as rules to automatically send web enquiries to the right contact.

Customer Convenience

The recipients of your text messages will receive your notification in their own time and can reply to it at a time that suits them. Receiving and replying to SMS takes little effort and can be done in a timely manner.


Get Started in Seconds!

Once your account has been activated, you can begin using the service immediately. It’s as simple as sending an email, no training required!

Open up a new email, enter the mobile number into the “To” section of the email, followed by @sms.tnz.co.nz, type your text message into the email and click send!

Any replies to your messages will be delivered straight back into your email inbox.


Additional Features
  • If enabled, the recipient of a TXT can reply to the message. Their response will be delivered as an email into your inbox!
  • Multiple messages can be sent to the same recipient. The system will analyse their reply and advise you which message they’re replying to.
  • Fast delivery to the mobile phone with full Delivery Reports advising whether the text message was sent successfully.
  • Messages are delivered with country-specific timestamps. This means New Zealand SMS messages are received with the New Zealand local time, while messages you send to other countries will be received with their local time displayed.
  • Personalisation Support, allows each individual recipient of a bulk text to receive personalised text messages. Sent one text and receive multiple replies!

eTXT is an internet service run by Bulletin Wireless that provides SMS messaging services from your email or web browser.

eTXT combines the power of email and text to provide you with a cost effective and simple way to contact the people who matter, right to their mobile.

Use eTXT to send:

  • Service announcements
  • In-house communications

eTXT on the web

The eTXT site allows you to send SMS messages from a web browser to supported mobiles. All your messaging and configuration options are available at  http://www.etxtservice.co.nz using the login details provided by your Company Administrator (CA), or by Spark.

eTXT is available to all Spark Mobile Postpaid business customers.

How am I billed?

Each eTXT is linked to a mobile number, called the Primary number. This number must be an 027 postpaid number. You choose the Primary number when you register.

Don’t worry if you don’t have an 027 number, we can sort you out with a special number when you register.

Note: eTXT messages are not covered by the free messages you may get with your mobile plan.

How will I be charged?
All set up and monthly fees will be billed to the Primary number, as will all charges incurred by each user. You will also be charged for messages sent to invalid numbers.

Where you have elected to allow your eTXT users to send long messages each 160 Chr segment is charged as one eTXT.

If you want to spread the charges across multiple accounts, each one will require its own 027 number and postpaid plan

If people reply to your eTXTs, they will be charged for the reply message depending on the SMS plan and terms of the provider that you are with.

How to use

Not sure if eTXT will work with your existing systems? Here are some guidelines.

  • eTXT will work with any program capable of sending email (e.g. Lotus Notes, Word)
  • We recommend you turn off BackScatter when using eTXT as it can cause the messages to be marked as spam
    Note: If you do want to use BackScatter, you must make sure your whole domain is not registered.

Below are a selection of procedures. More instructions are available in the online  User Guide .

Sending and Receiving

Sending an eTXT

  1. Login to the  eTXT Application
  2. Click Compose
  3. Enter the recipient’s number or the name of a Contact or Group in your address book in the To field
    • Note: Suggested matches will appear as you type.
  4. Click the + button or press Enter to add the recipient to the Recipient List
  5. Enter your message in the Message field
  6. When you are ready, click Send
  7. If you don’t want to send immediately, click the drop down button next to Send and schedule a time

You can send a maximum of 500 messages in any 24 hour period. If the eTXTs are for non-business use, you can only send 30 messages every 24 hours. If you need to send more than this, contact your account manager.

Setting the length of an eTXT

eTXTs can be limited to 160, 306, or 450 characters in length. Admins can set this within the eTXT Application.

Note: Messages that are longer than 160 characters will be charged the appropriate rate for each 160 character block. Customers will receive a single message. Long messages count as a single message towards your daily limit.

Receiving and Replying to an eTXT

The sender’s details will not appear in an eTXT. We recommend including your details in either the email subject line or at the top of your email message. You can also setup an automatic signature that will appear at the end of the message.

An eTXT can be replied to at any point up until another message is received from the same user.

Updating your eTXT Address Book

Add a new contact to address book

  1. Log in to the  eTXT Application
  2. Click Contacts from the drop down
  3. Contacts page will display
  4. Click Create Contact in the top right corner
  5. Enter the following details:
    • Name
    • Mobile Number
    • Alias
    • Email (optional)
  6. Click Save
  7. Contact person is created

Add a new group to address book

  1. Log in to the  eTXT Application
  2. Click Contacts from the drop down
  3. Contacts page is displayed
  4. Click Groups
  5. Click Create Group
  6. Enter the following details:
    • Name
    • Alias
  7. Click + next to the contacts to include in the group
  8. Click Save in the top right corner

Adding and Removing eTXT users

Provision a new user to an existing eTXT account

  1. Log in to the  eTXT Application  as company admin
  2. Home page will display
  3. Click Company Settings from the drop down
  4. Company Settings page will display
  5. Check Create User
  6. Create a New User page will display
  7. Enter the following details:
    • User Name
    • Login Name
    • Initial Password
    • Email
  8. Select a valid role from the drop down
  9. Choose a valid access option for Address book
  10. Click Save
  11. New user is added to the Company page

Relinquish a user account

  1. Log in to the  eTXT Application  as company admin
  2. Click Company Settings from the drop down
  3. Company Settings page will display
  4. Select Deactivate User from the drop down
  5. The deactivated user will be greyed out

Requirements

eTXT makes use of some modern HTML5 code as well as javascript so it won’t work so well on older browsers.

We recommend Internet Explorer (IE) 9 or above, Chrome, Firefox, Safari as eTXT makes use of responsive design – using up your screen real estate effectively in these browsers. Don’t worry if you are using the ancient IE8 – eTXT downgrades gracefully just like any decent product should.

To access and use eTXT you will need a browser (e.g. IE, Chrome or Firefox) that:

  • Supports cookies
  • Has JavaScript enabled
  • Has 1024 by 768 or above screen resolution

IE 7.0 and older is not supported and we suggest you visit the Microsoft website to upgrade to the latest version.

Some browser plugins or extensions (e.g. Grease Monkey) interfere with JavaScript, so if you are running anything like this, you will need to disable them or add etxtservice.co.nz to the exclusion list of the extension.

Security

Security is a major concern when accessing a website you don’t know and have not grown to trust yet. All traffic to and from the eTXT service is over secure HTTPS connections. None of your personal information is stored in cookies on your PC but we recommend that you check this yourself to put your mind at ease.

You may also notice that using the browser BACK button may cause an error to be displayed. This reduces the incidence of messages being resubmitted by mistake and also prevents any of your pages being accessed should someone attempt to replay your session from data they may have intercepted. Trust us, that is a good thing even though it is a little annoying at times. You can usually navigate using the buttons and links within the application so there is no need to use the BACK button.

On the subject of security we recommend you do not use the same password on our service as you do for other online services. On our systems, your passwords are stored securely (hashed), however on your browser they may not be.
