Scholarships for South Carolina studentsFull of history, art, and culture, South Carolina is an impressive state to be certain. The Palmetto state is home to over 60 colleges or universities as diverse as the people who live there. If you’re lucky enough to call South Carolina home, or hope to attend college there, take a look at the following scholarship opportunities to help with tuition and expenses.

Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund Scholarship

Amount: $5,000 (renewable)

For those who know the importance of natural resources and wildlife, take a look at this opportunity. This scholarship is dedicated to helping students who are pursuing higher education to study wildlife, fisheries, biology, zoology, marine science, environmental science, or related fields.

Students who are eligible must: be a graduating senior from a S.C. high school, attend a college/university in S.C., major in one of the previuosly mentioned fields, and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA.

David M. Cline Scholarship

Amount: $2,000

Another scholarship opportunity from the Hampton Wildlife Fund, this one-time scholarship is perfect for South Carolina students who are going to major in one of the following fields: law enforcement, criminal justice, forensic science.

To be eligible, the student must: be a full-time S.C. resident graduating from an S.C. high school, attend a college/university in S.C., and major in one of the previously mentioned fields.

Joye Law Firm Annual Scholarship Program

Amount: $2,000

Creative-types, this one might interest you. The scholarship competition entry can be an essay, video, painting, song, or other creative project warning about the dangers of drunk or distracted driving.

In addition to the entry, students must: submit a high school transcript, be involved in school and their community, and be a S.C. resident.

South Carolina Teaching Fellows Scholarship

Amount: Up to $24,000

This scholarship is for those students interested in pursuing a career in teaching. In addition to receiving aid in their pursuit of a teaching degree, these Fellows will teach in a S.C. public school one year for every year they receive the fellowship, and attend one of the ten Teaching Fellows Institutions (which can be found on their site).

To be eligible the student must be a resident of S.C., go through a selection process including an interview, writing sample, and giving a presentation.

SCPA Foundation Mundy Scholarship

Amount: $3,000 (renewable)

For those interested in entering the newspaper business, this scholarship might interest you. Student journalists can apply for this renewable scholarship.

To be eligible, the student must attend a S.C. college/university or be a S.C. resident but attending college/university elsewhere, and pursue a relevant major, desire to work for the newspaper industry.

South Carolina Chapter Soil and Water Conservation Society Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

The conservation of natural resources is important, and this is what the scholarship exemplifies. Awarded to students pursuing the study of conservation, some criteria for the scholarship include: writing an essay, submitting GPA, being involved in the community, and demonstrating financial need.

To be eligible, students must: be a resident of S.C. at the time of the application, be an full- or part-time undergraduate student, and may not receive the award consecutive years in a row.

South Carolina Needs-Based Grants Program

Amount: $2,500 or $1,500 (renewable)

Dedicated for S.C. residents who qualify as needy, these scholarship grants provide additional aid to those who need it. For full-time students, $2,500 can be awarded annually. For part-time students, $1,500 can be given every year.

To apply, students must: file the FAFSA, be seeking a degree at a S.C. school of higher learning, and demonstrate financial need.
